PSB is used for image files with up to 300000 pixels width or height.

About PSB files

The standard PSD only allows an image file size of maximum 2 GB on Mac or PC. This PSB format is also included in censhare OPI and the creation of additional images.

Preview PSB files

We do not recommend to create previews for PSB files due to the large size. Previews will take a long time to process or the process will be timed out. We recommend to set the size limit for previews in the preview settings to 2000 MB. PSB are saved in a compressed format. So a file with 42000 pixels width results in a compressed file size of 538 MB which will inflate to more than 3.3 GB in memory.
Previews can be generated for smaller files and the assets open in Photoshop when double-clicked.

To increase the timeout range:

  1. Log into censhare Admin Client.
  2. Select Configuration | Modules | preview_maker.preview-include. Increase the timeout in the censhare Service Client configuration or in the configuration of the Image Service in general. Keep in mind, that it is not possible to convert very large images to get a preview. Image services 'convert' would require a giant memory footprint and will most likely end in a timeout.

Ensure that all objects in layers are rasterized before saving. When you save your PSB images in Photoshop, activate compatibility mode. Otherwise previews are not rendered properly, for example layer content is shifted or thumbnails remain empty or white.
You cannot edit or resize PSB images with the censhare native Image Editor. PSB images will be destroyed when saved. The censhare standard image tools (ImageMagick) cannot write or convert from one format into PSB format. We recommend Helios in this case.
