To do that, go to the top navigation and click the button “Create new asset” and select the option “New asset from template”. Then select the template that suits you. For more information see the section Creating assets in the article on “Top navigation”.

You can't create layout documents in the Editor for InDesign Documents. You also can’t add frames to an existing layout document.

View layout documents

Left: Editor for Adobe InDesign-Documents: preview of the selected (double-sided) pages (1), review bar to leaf through the  preview pages (2), toolbar with  icons for editing (3), zoom level with selection menu (4) Right: "Relation" widgets: "Layout elements" widget (6) with all of the planned and placed elements (5), "Assigned elements" widget (7), "Planned elements" widget (8);  "Layout snippets" widget (9); Quick search (10); Refreshing data (11)

Open the layout in an asset page. The "Overview" and "Details" tabs provide you with various information about the text asset. Relation widgets show your assets that are linked to the layout. You can find them on the “Details” tab or you can create tabs yourself and place the relation widgets there yourself. To view the layout document itself, click the "Editor" tab.

On the left side in the “Editor” widget, the Editor for InDesign Documents shows you the currently selected single or double-sided page layout document. Using the preview bar, you can navigate through the individual pages of the documents. Click on the page in order to see the layout window. If the layout document only has one page, the preview bar will not appear. To hide or show the frames and the side margin, click the “Grid lines” check box in the toolbar.

Other relation widgets are displayed to the right of the "Editor" widget. The "Layout elements" widget shows you a structured table list of all the elements that are planned or placed in the layout. If there are assets placed more than once, it shows you the number of placements. You can navigate in the table by opening and closing the associated elements.

Other widgets including "Assignments" and "Plans" list the elements linked with the layout by relation type.

Overview of linked elements

The "Asset lists" widget to the right of the editor offers you different overviews of the elements linked with the current layout.

  • The "Layout elements" widget shows you a structured table list of all the elements that are planned or placed in the layout. If there are assets placed more than once, it shows you how many placements. This gives you an overview even if there are multiple layout groups or frames within one layout. For more information see the article Managing planned and placed layout elements.

  • The "Assignments" widget shows you which assets have a relation of the type "Assignment" for the layout.

  • The "Planned" widget shows the elements planned for the layout.

  • The "Layout snippets" widget lists the snippets available for the layout. For more information see the article Working with snippets.

Zooming

To make the layout window larger or smaller, move the cursor to the “Zoom” menu on the far right of the toolbar. Select the desired level of zoom. With the menu option “Fit to window” you can adjust the layout pages to fit the size of the window. The current zoom factor is shown in the input field left of the menu button.

Alternatively, you can click the cursor in the zoom factor display field. Using the “Up” and “Down” arrows you can then adjust the zoom level in steps of 10% to suit. You can also just enter the zoom factor you want and press “Return”.

Update preview

To update the preview of a layout document click the "Refresh" button in the toolbar. censhare will generate a preview for the layout pages and show it in the preview bar or in the layout window. You can’t edit the layout document while the preview is being generated.

Button: Refresh

When you edit a layout document, in the background censhare records the actions you perform in the Editor for InDesign Documents. These actions include placing an asset in a frame or cropping an image, for example. By clicking “Reload", censhare sends these changes to the Adobe InDesign Server. The server then places the images or texts in the respective frames of the layout document and then creates the preview in the layout pages. This is then shown in the Editor for InDesign Documents.

After reloading the layout preview in the editor you will have also updated the relations overview in the right window.
