Introduction

Every layout document has one or more frames that contain images or texts. You can place images or texts in the frame. The frames themselves can also be edited either individually or in layout groups. For every frame, you can specify which editing options should be available for the elements placed there and for the frame itself.

Different buttons and symbols show you the options for a frame or a layout group. The figure below uses different examples to show you how this might look:

Icons indicate the editing options for a frame. The icons are displayed in the toolbar at the top and are only there to better see the arrangement in the frame. The layout page shows the various editing situations: [1] Placed images and the frame can’t be edited. [2] Placed images and the frame can be edited. [3] An asset structure can be placed in the selected layout group and the layout group frame can be moved. [4] Assets can be placed. [5] The placed text in the frame can be replaced, edited or split up. Other assets available for alternative placement.

A frame can only belong to one layout group. A layout group becomes visible when you move the cursor to one of the frames that belong to it. censhare then highlights all of the frames from this group.

If a frame belongs to a layout group, you can edit both the layout group as well as the individual frames. Click the cursor once on the frame to select the group. Click again (double click) to select the frame itself. The editor switches to frame-click mode. In that mode, you can go to another frame just by clicking on it. Click in an area outside of the frame to leave that mode again.

If you have selected a group or an individual frame, then in the toolbar at the top of the layout editor you will see all of the editing options available for that frame or layout group. Click a button to start the associated action.

If a content or geometry lock is in place for a frame, the corresponding icons will appear on the bottom left of the frame in question.

Save layouts

As soon as you change the layout (by placing an asset, for example), a bar will appear below the Editor for InDesign Documents that you can use to save the layout. Click SAVE or SAVE & CLOSE to save your layout. With SAVE & CLOSE, censhare will also close the layout asset and return to the page you were previously on. With CANCEL you end the operation without saving any changes. Any changes you made will be lost!
