Product categories
Product categories create a hierarchical structure and a cascade of inherited features. The Product category tree can be built from scratch or with third-party product classifications.
Context
Product categories build the main structure to manage and classify Products.
Usage
Product categories are the main structural element to manage products and product information. The standard solution contains a root category. To build a classification, create child Product categories and assign Features to them. Features are inherited in cascade to child Product categories. When you place a product in a Product category, the inherited features from the cascade are added to the Products and can be edited as Product properties. For more information, see Feature inheritance - Key concept.
Third-party product classifications
Third-party product classifications are a convenient and established way to create a product classification. If you import a classification system with the PIM connector, censhare creates the respective Product categories, Features and Feature items. The classification data from the third-party classification is stored in the assets that are created. For more information, see Standard product classification - Key concept.
Data model
Product categories form a hierarchical classification. The Product category hierarchy relation controls the inheritance of Features. Inherited Features are referenced in child Product categories and added to Products.
