Compatibility matrices

Compatibility matrix for Adobe InDesign plugins, censhare Client versions, operating and virtual file systems.

Adobe support

Before you update to a new version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy, or InDesign Server, verify that the censhare version and Adobe plugin that you use support the desired Adobe version.

The tables below show the compatibility of operating systems and platforms with the Adobe plugin versions as per censhare version and VFS.
We recommend you to use the latest available Adobe plugin version as well as version parity between the censhare Server and the censhare clients to avoid unexpected results. In general, the plugin with the highest number includes all the functionality of the previous versions.

For details on the Adobe plugin functionality, installation, and version compatibility, see Adobe plugin

Adobe InDesign plugin 2024 known issue on macOS: InDesign crashes on exit

Adobe Indesign 2024 crashes on macOS during quit when the Adobe InDesign plugin 2024 is installed.

  • Windows users are not affected.

This behaviour has been observed on MacOS Sonoma and Ventura. Earlier MacOS versions might be affected, too.

Adobe InDesign plugin 2023 known issue on macOS: Gets disconnected

The Adobe InDesign plugin 2023 is fully functional. However, you need to be aware of its unusual behaviour on macOS.

  • Windows users are not affected.

  • InDesign Server 2023 works perfectly with the censhare Render-Client and does not require any workaround.

The plugin enters a disconnected state when the InDesign application is put in background, which can happen any time when you move between your tasks.

As a result:

  • When you try to open an InDesign document (layout, palette, etc.) stored in censhare by clicking on the asset in the censhare Client, it won’t be opened.

  • When you work with InDesign non-interactively, the plugin cannot sustain connection to the Renderer Client.

For both cases, we recommend the following workaround. Before doing anything else, you need to just open the InDesign application first. Then, simply create a new dummy document and keep it open. Now you can proceed with your routine: start the Renderer Client or start working with the censhare Client. As long as the dummy document remains open, you won't face any problems. The document does not require to be changed or saved, just don't close it before you are finished.

We are working on solving this issue, but we have some dependencies on the third-party provider in this regard.

VFS support

censhare Clients for macOS

Starting from the major release 2023.1, we introduced a new virtual file system for macOS-compatible censhare Clients: VFS 3.0.

VFS 3.0, as opposed to our previously shipped VFS 2.0, no longer uses kernel extensions, which have been deprecated by Apple due to security implications. VFS 3.0 implements a kextless implementation of the FUSE T library for macOS that uses NFS v4 local server instead of a kernel extension. From 2023.1 onwards, macOS clients are shipped by default with VFS 3.0.

A short summary of the VFS compatibilities and differences in installation:

  • VFS 3.0 / FUSE-T support

    • Default in 2023.1 and onwards

    • Security settings: require access to Document&Folder and Network Volumes. Alternativ: FullDiskAccess.

    • No restart necessary

  • VFS 2.0 / KEXT support

    • Used with censhare 2021.1 to 2022.2.

    • Mac machines with Apple silicon must reduce security level from Full Security to Reduced Security for installation: For more information, see Apple support.

    • Security settings: require access to Document&Folder. Alternativ: FullDiskAccess.

Customers are strongly advised to upgrade to the latest censhare releases to avoid incompatibilities and potential security risks.

Customers in need of VFS 3.0 support for previous releases may request an older censhare Client with the KEXTless VFS 3.0., but only for versions 2022.1 and higher. Please note that additional provisioning charges may apply. For further information and to request a downport, please raise a support ticket specifying the target version you need.

See also VFS versions and OS compatibility for more information on differences between KEXT-based and KEXTless virtual file systems.

censhare Clients for Windows

Supported Windows versions for censhare Client and censhare Render Client:

  • Windows 10 and newer (Windows 11 recommended)

The censhare Render Client is also supported on:

  • Windows Server 2016 and newer (Windows Server 2022 recommended)

The censhare Render Client can be installed in the equivalent server versions. The minimum version is Windows Server 2016.

However, you need to check the exact compatibility in the tables below.

Newer versions of censhare clients do not require a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installation on the client computer. Newer versions include 2024.1.0, 2023.1.1, 2022.2.3, 2022.1.3, 2021.2.10, 2021.1.11, 2020.3.12. This includes later versions for each mentioned version here.

censhare clients for Windows are delivered with CBFS Connect 2022 for the following versions:

  • 2024.2.0

  • 2024.1.0

  • 2023.1.0 and higher

The following censhare clients for Windows are delivered with CBFS Connect 2017:

  • 2022.2.x and older

CBFS Connect 2022 and CBFS Connect 2017 can run on Windows 10 and 11 but not at the same time. For example, when you install a censhare client with CBFS Connect 2022, it removes an existing CBFS Connect 2017.

We recommend to use CBFS Connect 2022 with Windows 11 only. The use of CBFS Connect 2017 on Windows 11 can cause problems.
