Google Cloud Vision (censhare Client)

"Google Cloud Vision" is a cloud service that Google offers for image analyses. censhare integrates the Google Cloud Vision service to analyze images stored in your system. For instance, Google Cloud Vision identifies brands, landmarks, keywords, or web-content related to an image. 

Context

  • You can execute the analysis by Google Cloud Vision in censhare Web and the censhare Client.

  • The results are shown in the Analysis tab of the Image asset page in censhare Web.

Prerequisites

Google Cloud Vision is a service provided by Google. The use of this Google service can result in additional costs that are invoiced directly by Google. censhare cannot influence or control these costs and therefore cannot be held responsible for them.
  • The Google Cloud Vision functionality is available for Image assets with the MIME types JPEG, PNG, or GIF.

  • To run automatic analyses, the automatic server action for Google Cloud Vision must be configured.

  • To start an analysis manually, the manual server action must be configured.

Introduction

Google Cloud Vision is a cloud service for image analysis. censhare uses this service to add information as properties to images.

censhare offers the following functionality from the Google Cloud Vision API:

  • Assign keywords

  • Identify the main colors of an image

  • Find the image or similar images on the web

  • Find web pages that contain the image

  • Identify locations shown in the image

  • Identify brands related to the image

  • Detect text shown in the image

  • Check for inadequate content (safe search)

  • Detect and classify objects

  • Keywords for identified objects

Depending on your system configuration, not all functions are available. If you need a function to be activated, contact your system administrator.

censhare analyzes the following asset types:

  • "Image" assets with JPEG MIME type

  • "Image" assets with GIF MIME type

  • "Image" assets with PNG MIME type (PNG 8 bit and PNG 24 bit)

You can execute the Google Cloud Vision functionality within the censhare Client. However, there is no graphical presentation of the results.

Note: Be aware, that censhare is dependent on the data provided by Google. Only results provided by Google after an analysis can also be shown in censhare.

How to execute the analysis

  1. Search for the images that you want to analyze in the censhare Client.

  2. Select the images in the query window of the censhare Client.

  3. Click the "Server actions" button at the top of the censhare Client.

  4. Choose "Analyze via Google Vision API".

censhare will execute the function for the selected images. While executing, a progress bar at the bottom of the censhare Client shows the status. If any assets do not fulfill the requirements, they will be ignored. There is no further information. All valid images are processed.

How to access the results

There is no graphical presentation of the results in the censhare Client. Instead, open the analyzed Image assets in censhare Web and go to the “Analyses” tab.

In the censhare Client, you can access an unsorted list with the results of an analysis. Right-click the Image asset and select "Edit metadata". In the edit dialog, go to the "Features" tab. The "Feature" section shows, among other features, the results of the Google Cloud Vision analysis.

Result

The "Google Cloud Vision" server action is executed for the opened Image asset and the results are stored in censhare. The results of the analysis are shown in the Analysis tab of opened Image asset.
